Harrah’s New Orleans Jazz Casino

Harrah’s Jazz Casino New Orleans

Our home casino changes back and forth between New Orleans and Laughlin. We seem to frequent those two casinos the most and for different reasons.

Prior to Hurricane Katrina and before we did a lot of gambling, we would visit New Orleans about once every couple of months. We stayed in the French Quarter. Airfares were cheap and hotels were expensive. After Katrina it took quite a while for the city to come back around for the tourist trade. So we started going to Las Vegas a bit more than we had before. We still visited New Orleans every May and through our Harrah’s connection we found we could receive comp’ed rooms at either their associate hotels or at their hotel after it opened in 2006. Now airfares were cheap and hotel rooms were free, we were hooked.

Now with airfare doubled it is cheaper to rent a car and avoid the naked x-rays and shoe removal involved with flying. Even factoring in the traffic you still arrive at your destination more relaxed and in a better mood than visiting the airport.

The drive from Biloxi to New Orleans is about 95 miles and really nothing to talk about. We drove straight to the Harrah’s garage facility and parked the car. We went down to the desk and they told us they would call when our room was ready. We headed to the casino and within ten minutes my phone rang and our room was ready. We collected our bags from the car and went up to our room. We were on the fourteenth floor and I checked to make sure there was a thirteenth floor elevator button to ensure our good luck.

We hit Total Rewards and swiped our cards. We decided on a beer to start our stay so we went to the bar by the poker room.  We found to decent machines and quickly fulfilled our 25 tier points.

While Laughlin has comp’ed flights and rooms; making it a great destination, New Orleans has great pay tables on their video poker machines. We had a very successful stay.

New Orleans is all about good food, music, and drinks. Everyone has their own special places to eat and drink way down yonder, and we are no exception. Exceptional seafood and lots of it are easy to find. Special dishes not available other places are readily available. Po’Boys, gumbo, muffalettas, oysters on-the-half shell, hard and soft shell crab, BBQ shrimp and charbroiled oysters are just a start of the items you’ll find on a menu. We always run out of time and stomach space while visiting New Orleans.

Getting Ready for a Parade

Two days of visiting New Orleans isn’t enough time to eat and party. The Cresent City kept us busy with street car rides, museum visits, and scores of people crazer than we are. We even ran into a pop-up parade being staged for a visiting convention.

It’s always sad to leave New Orleans but we need two more checkpoints from the Horseshoe in Bossier City, LA. before returning home.
